150 YEARS IN TEXAS!
The year 1996 marks the 150th anniversary of the arrival of our first ancestors on the shores of Texas. Late in 1846, the parents, Anton and Mary Katherine Hoelscher, arrived at Galveston with their sons, Anton, Jr., Joseph, William, and Bernard. (We have since learned that another son, Franz, also arrived with them.) In the Hoelschers' company was Elizabeth Ahsen-Brüse, the fiancée of Anton, Jr. Four years later, in 1850, the Hoelscher daughter, Elizabeth, arrived with her husband, Theodore Buxkemper, and the first three of their children. Records have been located showing their arrival aboard the ship "Reform."
Thus, the years 1996 and 2000 are years of special celebration for the Hoelscher-Buxkemper Family.

YES, A NEWSLETTER!

To share news with all our relatives, we offer you the second edition of our Hoelscher-Buxkemper Family Newsletter.

Let us know if you think this Newsletter is a good idea. Newsletter Chairperson is Theresa Gold (pp. 265, 385), 106 Ranchland, San Antonio TX 78213.

HISTORICAL BANNER FOR REUNION
The 1996 Reunion committee is looking for photographs and documents that depict the history of the Hoelscher-Buxkemper to help tell the 150 years of the family's history in Texas. These will be used in a collage banner to be displayed at the Reunion.
Send xerox or laser copies with identification of the persons in the photograph, or explanation of the document, with a statement as to how the picture or document adds to the history of the family.
Send these copies to Harold Hoelscher (pp. 46, 410), 4818 Woolridge Road, Corpus Christi TX 78413.
WHERE ARE WE?
As of November 1995, we have 3,746 families on our mailing list. But, 132 of these (3.5 percent) are "lost" (see page 5). Of the good addresses, 3,108 (83 percent) are in Texas and the others are in 46 other states and three foreign countries.

SEND, SEND, SEND!
We're not asking for money. We're not asking for blood. We are asking for clippings and addresses.
Our Custodian of Records is also anxious to hear from you with your clippings of family members and events to fill the family scrapbooks that are so popular at our Reunions. Please send her clippings of weddings, engagements, obituaries, promotions, awards, and anything else that places our family members in the news. Be sure to include the name and date of the newspaper. Send them to: Anne Raabe (p. 490), Custodian of Records, 2724 Biloxi, Mesquite TX 75150.
Theresa Gold (pp. 265, 385) always needs more and updated addresses. See "Lost" List on page 5.

HOELSCHER-BUXKEMPER FAMILY HERITAGE ASSOCIATION BY-LAWS
For the first time, the Hoelscher-Buxkemper Family is operating under formal By-Laws as passed at the 1994 Reunion. The full statement of the By-Laws is lengthy, however here are some highlights.
The name of the organization is "Hoelscher-Buxkemper Family Heritage Association," and the purpose is to establish unity for the preservation of the heritage of the family. The two stated objectives are to collect, analyze, disseminate and preserve genealogical, historical and biographical data pertaining to the family and to organize and promote attendance at the biennial reunions. All persons descended from Anton and Mary Katherine Hoelscher are members of the Family Heritage Association.
Whereas it had been customary for the Reunion Chairperson to serve as the Chairperson of the family organization, the By-Laws provide for a separate President. Other officers are: Vice President, Secre tary-Treasurer, and Custodian of Records. The officers are elected by the board at the meeting in odd-numbered (non-Reunion) years. Committees include: Reunion, Newsletter, Family History Book, Research, and Membership Roster (names and addresses).
The Board consists of one or more Directors from geographical areas where the number of residents warrants representation. Regular meetings of the Board are once a year: during the Reunion in even-numbered years, and the second Sunday after Easter in odd-numbered years.
