Hoelscher Haus
The museum is dedicated to the preservation of the polka music and dance you love and the people who promote.
The Museum is housed in the late 1870’s Home of Anton and Elizabeth Bruse Hoelscher, Jr, moved from Live Oak Hill Area, southeast of Ellinger, Texas.
The Hoelscher Haus was donated by Henry and Esther Hoelscher of Houston, and on October 19, 2005 it was moved from the farm to the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, Inc in La Grange, Texas.
The Hoelscher Haus is part of the Texas Czech Village at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, Inc.Other homes you may visit there are the Migl House , Lob Cabins and Corn Crib, Kalich House, fur trading post, Wallachian Bell and Belfry and the Sanford Schmid Amphitheater. The Polk Lovers Club of Texas Museum displays polka memorabilia as well as a working jukebox that plays the old 45’s of the various bands in Texas and Polka bands from other parts of the United States.
The Hoelscher Haus was built in the late 1870’s; it is constructed in the salt box style with two rooms on the lower floor and two rooms upstairs.As a side the original log cabin of Anton and Elizabeth is still on the farm of Henry and Esther Hoelscher.They have it covered by a barn and pictures are show in the Places to Visit of the Education Section.
