October 2005

The 2006 Hoelscher-Buxkemper Family Reunion will be held on June 10th and 11th in El Campo, TX at the El Campo Civic Center, 2350 North Mechanic Street.

El Campo, Located 74 miles Southwest of Houston on US 59, is a beautiful city with a variety of recreational opportunities, antique shops, good food, and polka music.

The host committee is making plans for a great reunion. Along with the usual visiting, the meals, the dance, and Sunday mass, they will have the Display Room, Souvenirs, Domino Tournament, Children’s Play Area, Raffle, Silent Auction, Door Prizes, and they are still working on other entertainment for Saturday afternoon.

El Campo was selected for the reunion site because it has facilities that will accommodate a gathering the size of the Hoelscher-Buxkemper Family (975 – 1000 attendees) and it is just a nice sort drive to the La Grange – Frelsburg area where our ancestors settled.

Tours to the family homestead and burial sites are planned for Friday the 9th of June. The tour will have guides along the way and all areas of interest will be clearly marked.

These tours should be a must for everyone interested in their heritage and are an excellent opportunity to get some great photos. Information on the Painted Churches in the area is being worked up for those who are interested in continuing on their own.

Motel accommodations in the El Campo and surrounding areas will be busy during the month of June due to oil field workers and custom harvesters that stay in the area so you are encouraged to make your reservations early. Your hosts have blocked off rooms in certain motels in El Campo, Columbus, Wharton, Rosenberg, and Bay City. See page 5 for listing.

The invitation you will receive early next year will have much more information about the reunion. Look for it.

If you have any questions about the reunion or wish to help with the reunion in any way, contact Pat & Larry Hoelscher, xxxxxxxx or Reneau Gold, xxxxxxxxxx
Mark your calendars now!!!! 10 & 11 June 2006 El Campo TX

BOOK WHERE’S THE BOOK?

This is an item of interest for everyone and has been for some time. As of this writing, all input is being completed and final edits are in progress so the book should become a reality within the next few months. When you do get the book and see the magnitude (volume and detail) of information included, hopefully you will better understand the reason for the delay. The Book Committee has expended countless hours to make this a book to be proud of.

Books will be sent to those who have ordered and paid for them. If you haven’t ordered a book, do it now by using the form on page 7 of this newsletter.

Though the book will not include events such as birthdays, marriages, and deaths that have occurred since 31 December 2003, the family chairpersons continue to update their records with information you provide. Please continue to send update information to your family chairperson. In case you have forgotten, the chairpersons are:
